Description
Overview
SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a cell-permeable tetrapeptide that selectively targets the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds to cardiolipin, a phospholipid critical for the electron transport chain efficiency. By protecting cardiolipin from oxidative damage, SS-31 restores ATP production in damaged or aged mitochondria. Originally developed for heart failure and acute kidney injury, it demonstrates remarkable energy restoration in aging models and neurological conditions.
